WikiLeaks suspect Pfc. Bradley E. Manning made little effort to hide his homosexuality and expressed deep frustration over "don't ask, don't tell" on his Facebook page, obtained and published by the PBS show Frontline.
In the exhaustive archive of posts, available here, Manning, 23, is open about his relationship difficulties with another man and expressed great interest in LGBT news events, including the Proposition 8 trial in 2010. "This trial is intellectually, philosophically, and morally enlightening; yet such a personal emotional roller coaster," he wrote on January 16, 2010. "Regardless of the outcome, I will never forget any of this. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't in tears."
Manning was a Facebook fan of multiple LGBT groups and causes, including Equality California and "Repeal the Ban -- End 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.'" (For more coverage of Manning's Facebook posts, visit The Upshot.)
Bradley was arrested last year and charged with multiple counts of transferring and disseminating classified material to WikiLeaks. He is currently being detained at a correctional facility in Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
Frontline's Wikisecrets premieres Tuesday at 9 p.m. (Listings info is available here).
