The sole heir to Frank Kameny's estate says he had known the gay rights pioneer since he was a 15-year-old boy, just figuring out his identity.
Timothy Clark, 35, was named Kameny's sole beneficiary in 2007, four years before Kameny's death in October 2011. Clark told the Washington Blade that he first spoke to Kameny on the phone when the activist was running the Gay Information hotline from his home. His grandmother did not initially approve, but Clark continued to call the hotline regularly, and eventually met Kameny when he was 16. Their friendship endured until Kameny's death.
Clark was designated the beneficiary of Kameny's estate for all of his items, except for his documents and correspondence, which were given to the Library of Congress after his death.
