🏀 A gay former NBA executive is back in the game after the Dallas Mavericks hired him to be its new CEO. Rick Welts speaks with The Advocate about returning to the NBA and why he agreed to come out of retirement.
❌ Congress just passed the first federal anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in years. The Senate sent the National Defense Authorization Act, which includes a provision denying insurance coverage for gender-affirming care for transgender youth under the military’s TriCare plan, primarily affecting children of service members, to President Joe Biden's desk. He's previously said he'd veto any anti-trans legislation.
🕯️ We're taking a moment to remember Cameron Thompson, a Black trans 18-year-old who was shot and killed in Alabama. Her family believes the killing was a hate crime.
🏛️ U.S. Rep.-elect Sarah McBride gave her farewell speech this week in Delaware where she served as a state senator. McBride will now head to Congress to represent the state, making U.S. history as the first transgender member. McBride thanked her fellow Delaware lawmakers for helping her "realize the awesome responsibility and the awesome opportunity that we have to leave this state better and kinder than we found it."
