Hello and welcome to new week after what turned out to be a newsy weekend! Audience Editor Edgar Ramirez back in your inbox here with an update on former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg's case that shook us all.
Christopher Wiggins writes: Michigan’s attorney general is investigating how an unsubstantiated tip led authorities to keep Buttigieg from being with his children.
Authorities separated Buttigieg from his 4-year-old twins before taking basic steps to determine whether the accusation against him was credible, according to police records obtained by The Washington Post. They reveal failures across two states.
As Wiggins writes, the episode carries an especially menacing undertone because Buttigieg, the first openly gay Cabinet secretary confirmed by the Senate, has long faced attacks over his sexuality, his marriage and the couple’s decision to adopt children. He told investigators his family receives threats, including death threats. We'll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more.
Thanks folks, stay safe and we'll be back tomorrow!
