RuPaul finally got to host Saturday Night Live and he showed off his comedic chops during a well-received monologue.
Following a "cold open" that covered the latest Democratic debate, Ru strode out in a fitted pink suit and proclaimed, "This is fun, right?"
RuPaul, star of the long-running RuPaul's Drag Race, has never hosted Saturday Night Live before; few LGBTQ stars have, especially queer celebrities of color.
After explaining Drag Race parlance to the audience, he acknowledged the crowd likely expected him in drag. Thankfully, "I am wearing my grandmother's panties," he reassured them. Ru then repeated his famous line, "We're born naked and the rest is drag."
Ru elicited his biggest laugh when he described his early New York years in the '80s, when the city was filled with drugs, sex workers, and seedy nightclubs. "But it wasn't all good," Ru admitted, adding some edited stories of his time in the city.
The drag icon ended his monologue on a positive note, imploring the audience not to take life too seriously (well, except when it came to love and kindness).
