Bullied Youth Dies After Suicide Attempt

SETH WALSH X390

Seth Walsh, a 13-year-old from Tehachapi, Calif., is the latest youth reported to have taken his own life this month because of antigay bullying that went unaddressed at school.

According to KGET-TV, Walsh died Tuesday afternoon after spending nine days on life support after he hanged himself from a tree in his back yard.

Students acknowledged that Walsh was bullied over a long period of time for being gay, and they said that officials at Jacobsen Middle School did not intervene despite an antibullying program cited by school officials. Police said there would be no charges in the death of Walsh.

“Tehachapi police investigators interviewed some of the young people who taunted Seth the day he hanged himself and determined despite the tragic outcome of their ridicule, their actions do not constitute a crime,” reported KGET.

The death of Walsh follows the suicides of at least two other teens this month due to relentless antigay bullying at school. Last week, Asher Brown, 13, of Texas shot himself in the head because of bullying, and earlier this month, Billy Lucas, 15, of Indiana killed himself.

Jesus said these were the most important things to remember; Love the Lord with all your heart, mind, soul and strength...and love your neighbor as yourself. He also said to pull the plank from your own eye before trying to pick the sawdust from your brother's, and let him without flaw cast the first stone. We are all human, therefor all one (connected spiritually)...I truly believe love heals all things, and God IS love. Let's heal each other. I don't believe it's our place to say what's right or wrong for other people. I believe that's between the individual and God. My prayer is that the world learns to love more and judge less. I pray for all of the families that have lost someone because of prejudice, racism, intolerance, etc. whether it was a result of a direct or indirect (such as self-inflicted) assault. As for people who think they have the right to judge in the name of God, read about the church in Ephesus...Love, love, love

How many times have you heard this: "You made the choice to be gay, you can be straight if you wanted to."Yes, I choose to be hated, discriminated against, denied rights, fired from my job, alienated from family, and friends. I choose to be ridiculed, made fun, called names, have my books taken out of my hands and tripped in the hallways to class. I choose to be punched in my back on my way home, harassed, humiliated, and anguished with living my life because of my "choice" of sexuality. Someone tell this 13 year old boy that it was his choice to hang himself..please step up, say it, I dare you. Amazing how we can identify that he didn't have to die, and that he was abused, but who in the hell was there to save him when he was alive? To all the armchair quarterbacks who can in retrospect say how this boy was taunted and teased and nothing was done. If you saw it, where was your voice of reason at that time to advocate; where were you? Do you still think its a choice, well, do you?

I have read most of the posts here and want to address the finger pointing going on at the parents of this poor child. First, it seems to me that there are many assumptions being made and I think that we need to remember that they have lost their son. And, second how about talking about the home life of the kids that did the bullying. I was at the grocery store just 2 nights ago and was walking out with other people and there were two adult male with a young boy who appeared to be 8 or 9 years old. The father (?) had pointed out the guard standing at the door to his son (?) and was cajoling him to go up and talk to the guard. As we walked across the parking lot the father said to the son; "So who's the Fa**ot now? repeating it twice. They all had a good laugh over it. Here is a thought: Send out Child Protective Services to check up on the home life of the bullies!!!

re: Marie's comments on what is "natural" and what is not, the diversity in sexual orientation that exists in the world among human and animal kingdoms is "natural". See Dr. Roughgarden's book "Evolution's Rainbow: Diversity, Gender and Sexuality in Nature and People". God created diversity. BTW, mainline theological schools teach that the bible was written by inspired people, and represents a history of man's search for God (as opposed to god's words for mankind).

To think that we entrust our children to those who are professionally trained to educate them and to keep them safe. The morality is disappearing from our country...teachers as well as those who taunted these kids are the ones who pulled the trigger and tied the rope around the little neck. We are all to blame when we turn our heads and pretend not to see wrong...so not to get involved! Shame on all of us who could have found 1 minute to protect and talk with these children.

Such a sad story, and one must know it's repeated over and over again in schools. The sure way to stop this bullying is for the parents to drag the school district into court. With a successful law suit, and a large cash award is the only way to get the attention of any school district. At that point it will pay districts to enforce anti-bullying policies. Money talks, and school districts will listen. How about some legislation that makes it a crime? The climate of hate must be stopped!

Last century (1970's), I was coerced into a marriage, procreated three times, did all the blah, blah, blah natural things which were all un-natural to me. Today I am formerly married, currently happy. If I had to choose between a bullet in the head and a vagina, I would take the bullet.
