Howard Brown and Lesbian Community Cancer Project launch joint health program

Chicago's Howard Brown Health Center, a gay health organization, and the Lesbian Community Cancer Project on Friday announced a collaborative program combining both agencies' resources to provide greater health care access for lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered women. The program will enhance LCCP's efforts to educate and advocate for lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered women and, through Howard Brown, will provide access to health services ranging from comprehensive primary care to behavioral health and social services.

"This is an all-around exciting moment for Howard Brown and for LCCP," said Howard Brown executive director Keith Waterbrook. "There are so many women in our community who need and deserve the best health care, and by creating this programmatic alliance, we consolidate our strengths--and everyone benefits immensely."

LCCP executive director Jessica Halem believes that, "LCCP's programming--support groups for women with cancer and training programs for providers--will be strengthened by our ability to share infrastructure and resources with Howard Brown. LCCP's ability to focus more on programming and less on infrastructure is a good thing for the health of Chicago's lesbian community."
