The out and proud Swedish soccer star has signed with the Myrtle Beach Mutiny of the National Premier Soccer League.

Anton Hysen scored one for equality in sports when he kicked down the closet door three years ago and revealed he was gay. However, the Swedish soccer star will soon be upping the ante of LGBT visibility in U.S. sports as well, reports Outsports.

The Myrtle Beach Mutiny, a South Carolina team that competes in the National Premier Soccer League, announced it has signed Hysen for the 2014 season.

"The Mutiny are very excited to have Anton joining us this year," said Mutiny sporting director Pat Piscitelli. "A player of his caliber, with his international experience, will bring a positive change to the Mutiny. The Myrtle Beach area is in for a real treat with this team and will have the opportunity to see professional soccer played at a very high level."

Hysen continues to blaze a trail in U.S. soccer started by Robbie Rogers, who made history last May when he became the first openly gay major league soccer player by signing with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
