Gay Houston
resident Greg Chapman was selected from among 6,000 entrants
to read his essay on "This I Believe," a series of weekly
essays featured on National Public Radio. Chapman's
essay will air on the October 3 edition of All
Things Considered and will feature the writer
discussing how he was able to put aside the teachings
of childhood and embrace being gay. "I started to change
the basic stories of my life," writes Chapman. "I started to
love myself and believe the Divine did so as
well...[and] the more I loved myself, the more beauty
I saw in everyone else. So I'm gay. And now, after
decades of struggle, I tell a good story about it." CPA and
tax analyst Chapman joins a distinguished list of
essayists featured on the program, which includes
Colin Powell, Bill Gates, Andrew Sullivan, Errol
Morris, John Updike, Isabel Allende, Rick Moody, and Gloria
Steinem. To see recent "This I Believe"
