A not so funny
thing happened to Delta Burke on her way to making her Los
Angeles stage debut: The Designing Women star
fell off a riser and fractured her ankle Sunday while
rehearsing out playwright Del Shores's Southern
Baptist Sissies. Her March 29 debut has been
pushed back to April 5, and she will perform in a
cast. "I wish I could blame it on the choreography,
but it's not a musical," said Burke in a statement. "I just
had a clumsy moment." She added that cast members
were "sweet and concerned." Shores, in a
statement, noted, "Our first concern was that Delta
was OK. And today Delta called and said, 'I'll be back for
final dress rehearsal on Tuesday, ready to perform on
Wednesday.' Man, I love this woman! That's one week
and two days after she broke her ankle; I think that's
faster than Madonna after her horse-riding accident."
