In a lawsuit
against her former manager, k.d. lang was awarded $1.9
million in damages by the Los Angeles superior court on
Tuesday, reports Chartattack.com.
Lang alleged that
former manager Annabel Lapp stole hundreds of thousands
of dollars from the singer and misappropriated an unknown
sum of money from her bank accounts. Lang claimed that
Lapp would often write checks from the singer's
account and purposefully not disclose their amounts.
Lang also claimed that after she fired Lapp, the manager
wrote five checks for over $20,000 without Lang's
permission.
Lapp's lawyer,
Michael Velletta, says Lang should have filed the suit in
Canada, since all of the business dealings with Lapp
happened there. Velletta thinks the case is not
enforceable in Canada and doesn't believe Lang will
see the money.
Lang will tour
the United States this summer with Lyle Lovett. (The
