The makers of Australian superstar Paul Hogan's 2004 hit Strange Bedfellows are investigating whether that film was plagiarized in the new Adam Sandler comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, reports the Web site for the Brisbane Times.
Bedfellows, Australia's highest-grossing film of 2004, centers on a cinema owner and a mechanic, both straight, who pretend to be gay for financial benefits, while Chuck & Larry follows two straight firemen who play gay for the same reason.
Dean Murphy, Bedfellows' director and cowriter, has not seen Chuck & Larry, though the article reports he receives e-mails "every day" regarding the films' similarities.
"It's obviously annoying if they ripped the film off, but until we see it, it's so hard to know," he said in the article. (The Advocate)
