10. MUSIC: Red Hot + Rio 2
Red Hot Organization's new tribute to the Tropicalia movement of late-'60s Brazil -- a sequel to the 1996 Bossa Nova-inspired Red Hot + Rio compilation -- features more than 30 original collaborations between legendary Brazilian musicians and contemporary indie artists like Devendra Banhart, of Montreal, and Beck. As with all Red Hot projects, proceeds from the sale of this double-disc album benefit HIV/AIDS-related charities.
9. DVD: Breaking Glass Pictures
Since 2009, Breaking Glass Pictures has released more than two dozen LGBT titles, including The Big Gay Musical, Edie & Thea: A Very Long Engagement, My Trip Down the Pink Carpet, and the controversial Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives. 8. FILM: Love Etc.
Filmed over the course of one year, Jill Andresevic's engaging documentary -- out July 1 in New York City and July 15 in L.A. -- depicts the various stages of modern romance. Ranging in age from 18 to 89, the subjects include high school sweethearts, Indian newlyweds, and Scott Ellis (pictured), a gay TV and theater director who, eager to start a family of his own, goes the surrogacy route alone and becomes a single father of twins.
7. THEATER: The Judy Show - My Life as a Sitcom
Lesbian comedian Judy Gold, who has dreamed of starring in a sitcom since she was a little girl, looks at her life through the lens of classic sitcoms from the '70s, '80s, and '90s in this multimedia musical comedy. Written by Gold and gay 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother collaborator Kate Moira Ryan with additional material by gay comedy writers Eric Kornfeld and Bob Smith, the show opens July 6 at off-Broadway's DR2 Theater.
6. THEATER: Kowalski
Directed by Rick Shaw, the world premiere of Gregg Ostrin's drama, which opened June 30 and runs through September 4 at Two Roads Theater in Studio City, Calif., imagines a virtually unknown Marlon Brando's infamous 1947 audition at the Cape Cod vacation home of Tennessee Williams to play Stanley Kowalski in Broadway's A Streetcar Named Desire. Curt Bonnem and Ignacio Serricchio star as Williams and Brando, respectively.
5. CABARET: Seth Rudetsky's Broadway Series at the Art House
Legendary gay actor, writer, and drag artiste Charles Busch makes his Provincetown, Mass., debut July 2 and July 3 as part of a new concert series hosted by out Broadway and Sirius XM Radio star Seth Rudetsky at the Art House. With Rudetsky at the piano, other artists performing through September 4 include Adam Pascal, Andrea McArdle, Ana Gasteyer, Gavin Creel, and Andrea Martin. For tickets visit PtownArtHouse.com.
4. TV: Flipping Out
The last time house-flipping interior decorator Jeff Lewis mixed business with pleasure, it was with boyfriend and business partner Ryan Brown -- and viewers saw how well that turned out. But in the fifth season of this Bravo reality series, which premieres July 6, Lewis's boyfriend Gage Edward (pictured) joins the cast as the new head of Lewis's business development team, who aims to transform Jeff Lewis Design into a larger brand.
3. MUSIC: Right Now, Brad Walsh
Dance-pop musician -- and longtime boyfriend of Christian Siriano -- Brad Walsh sets aside his passion for collaborations and takes the wheel on his new full-length album, resulting in a dark yet club-friendly disc that delves into uncharacteristically personal territory: "Father" explores his withholding a blood transfusion from his deadbeat dad, and "D.F.W.M." rips apart the homophobe who attacked him in broad daylight in 2008.
2. RADIO: The Pop Ten
Beginning July 1, The Pop Ten with former NSYNC member Lance Bass will air Friday nights on SiriusXM Radio OutQ, channel 108. Joined in studio by celebrity guests and his closest friends, Bass will count down his favorite songs of the week, discuss pop culture, and interact with fans through Twitter, Facebook, and live phone calls. 1. FILM: Outfest
The 29th annual Los Angeles LGBT film festival, which runs July 7 through July 17, opens with trans teen drama Gun Hill Road, closes with Kathleen Turner in The Perfect Family, and includes Calpernia Addams in the premiere of Brian Pera's short film series Woman's Picture.
