The President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS has issued a new report, titled "Achieving an HIV-Free Generation: Recommendations for a New American HIV Strategy," that says that while HIV treatment programs are essential, "we will not treat our way out" of the epidemic, according to a press release from PACHA. The report also encourages so-called "prevention for positives" programs that urge HIV-positive people to not expose others to their infections, and widespread and routine HIV antibody testing so that all at-risk Americans can learn if they're infected. The goal of the American HIV response should be "zero infections," according to the report. There was no report from the White House as to whether President Bush will endorse any of the recommendations in the report. (Advocate.com)
