If you're a friend of Alex LiMandri's, you might want to think twice about ordering dessert. "I'm always teasing my friends," he says. "I tell them to stop eating or get in shape or go to the gym. They're always complaining that they're fat, but they keep eating!" For the 30-year-old real estate agent, this sort of behavior is beyond his comprehension, though you'll rarely find him in a gym either. "I'm pretty lucky, because I don't need to work out every day to have the body I want to have," he says. "Sometimes I feel fatter than usual, but I just stop eating."
Formerly a child model in his native France, LiMandri says he used to feel the "pressure of looking good all the time. In France, though, the body is not really important. It's about the eyes, the face." LiMandri uses the same gauge to analyze his own self-image: Although he's happy with his body, he's considering a medical procedure to straighten his teeth -- something he admits didn't cross his mind until he moved to the United States three years ago. Still, he notes that in gay culture, certain body images are universal. "Wherever you go in the world, if you go to a gay club, you will always see people with their shirts off -- and they [all] have great bodies."
