Chasten Buttigieg shared his concerns over the future of marriage for LGBTQ+ people.

The news that the legendary U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died Friday at 87 following a years-long battle with pancreatic cancer sent many folks into collective mourning that they expressed on social media.

Appointed by Bill Clinton in 1993, Ginsburg has championed LGBTQ+ civil rights throughout her time on the bench.

A feminist icon and an arbiter of decency and fairness for all, a few days before her death, Ginsburg told her granddaughter Clara Sera, "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."

The fight for the future of the SCOTUS is imminent with the Trump administration already gearing up to replace her with a conservative justice. But in the wake of the news of her death, many LGBTQ+ people and allies on social media expressed a debt of gratitude to Ginsburg, including Pete and Chasten Buttigieg, Laverne Cox, and Megan Rapinoe.

Below is a round-up of reactions to Ginsburg's death.
