Choi Apologizes for Slur Against Reid

Lt. Dan Choi has apologized for the slur he used against Senate majority leader Harry Reid that led some to question the feminist credentials of the provocative "don't ask, don't tell" repeal spokesman.

In a revealing profile in The Village Voice, Choi expressed anger with Reid after the "don't ask, don't tell" repeal vote failed in the senate last month. He said, "Harry Reid is a pussy, and he'll be bleeding once a month."

The statement drew heavy criticism Wednesday for its implication that there is something weak and wrong with being a woman, with some quarters calling out Choi for misogyny. For some, the comment ripped open old wounds over inequality between gay men and lesbians in the LGBT movement.

According to Politico, Choi, who called himself a "feminist," apologized on Twitter early Thursday, saying, "I appreciate your criticism; I apologize for using the slur, and resolve to educate others in any capacity I'm afforded in the future."

While he may have apologized to offended women and their allies, Choi does not seem intent on telling Reid he is sorry. The Nevada senator is engaged in a tough battle for reelection against Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle.

"Go ahead: call me a 'misogynist.' I'm still pro-choice, pro-ERA. I also happen to think @HarryReid is a #DADT #FAIL," he tweeted Thursday, according to Politico.
