I don't know about you, but when I'm on vacation, I tend to find myself craving a salad or two after a few days of, well, eating everything that is opposite of a salad. I also tend to ignore the news (though I did hear the University of Kansas threatened a transgender employee, Sarah McBride went on an impressive tour, and Lindsey Graham’s sister is taking his Senate seat?), but in this case, it was hard to avoid learning about the outbreak of cyclospora.

As Quispe López reports, health authorities have yet to trace the source of the outbreak (after all, RFK Jr. has been busy rolling back the rights of LGBTQ+ children in foster care), which was first detected in May and has since spread to 34 states. But before you rush to purchase vegetable soap to scrub your produce (which is largely ineffective in preventing the spread of cyclospora) it’s important to learn about how it proliferates, best hygiene practices, and what else you can do to keep yourself safe.
