There weren't enough Claymates in the Tarheel State to save the former Idol finalist from defeat.
Former American Idol finalist Clay Aiken was in a tough battle with Republican representative Renee Ellmers, who long led him in this race for North Carolina's GOP-leaning 2nd Congressional District. Democrat Aiken worked to distance himself from President Obama, something Bill Maher tore him apart for. But his anti-Obama strategy wasn't enough and he failed to unseat Ellmers (coming in second for the third time). The bad news piled up for Aiken on Tuesday as his campaign bus broke down earlier in the day.
