By now it's a given -- nearly every week, pop train wreck Britney Spears appears at the top of every "Most Googled" celebrity list... and she's been there since the invention of, well, Google. But Advocate.com has turned this 21st-century popularity contest on its ear by finding the most-searched-for LGBT celebrities over the past five years (plus names like Jodie, Anderson, and Adam who, if they were openly gay, would rank awfully high).
Some of the results will likely surprise you -- others will seemingly fit right in.
The following is the list in ascending order, with each celeb's top Google News search result as of May 14:
25. Wanda Sykes
24. Cynthia Nixon
Creel, Davis, Jackson, McDonald, Nixon, and Hair Cast Will Be Part of Marriage Equality Rally
23. Neil Patrick Harris
Neil Patrick Harris to Host Tonys
22. Rosie O'Donnell
Daniel O'Donnell, an Openly Gay Assemblyman, Pushes Same-Sex Marriage in New York (Daniel is Rosie's brother)
21. Samantha Ronson
Gwyneth Paltrow, Party Starter: The GOOP Celebrity DJ Playlist
