According to Bill Maher's interpretation of Rick Santorum's views on contraception, the candidate believes "life begins at erection."
"Life begins the second the sperm hits the hoo-ha," Maher explained to Jay Leno Wednesday night. "Before the woman can even say, 'What are you thinking?' there is a third person in that room."
Maher says Santorum is stuck in a time warp to 2004, when he says Republicans used the specter of same-sex marriage to drive evangelical voters to the polls.
"I guess the Republicans haven't gotten the memo that this country has changed since 2004," he said, arguing that cultural acceptance of gay people has come quickly. Maher said the entire party seems distracted from its core argument, which was once regularly put forth by Tea Party activists, about the economy and deficits.
"Weren't they mad at the bankers and the bailouts?" he asked. "Then somebody shoves a big gay penis in their face and they jump at it."
