Longtime Congressman Wants to Get Married in Maine

The politician urges action to bring marriage back to Maine.

Retiring congressman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) headlined a civil rights fund-raiser in Maine Saturday and urged voters to get out and support marriage equality in November.

Speaking at the Maine People's Alliance 30th anniversary awards dinner in Portland, Frank said he hoped to marry in Maine next year. Frank's fiance, Jim Ready, is from Maine, and the couple hope to first wed in Massachusetts and then follow that with a ceremony in the Pine Tree State. Of course, Maine will have to reverse its ban on same-sex marriage -- voters go to the polls in November to weigh the issue.

Frank also told the crowd that he advocated cutting military spending and lamented the loss of moderate Republicans in Congress. Read more here.
