7. THEATER: Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
The recently opened Broadway revival of great gay playwright Edward Albee’s most famous work is “the first necessary ticket of the fall Broadway season,” according to The New York Times. This production, coming on the 50th anniversary of the play’s Broadway premiere, originated two years ago at Chicago’s esteemed Steppenwolf Theatre and traveled to Washington, D.C., before arriving on the Great White Way. Tony- and Pulitzer-winning playwright Tracy Letts (August: Osage County) makes his Broadway acting debut in the role of George, and veteran Chicago thespian Amy Morton is Martha, his partner in marriage, alcohol abuse, and psychological warfare. Booth Theatre, through February 24.
