Maine's Gov. Raising Cash for Equality

Maine Governor John Baldacci will be one of the headliners at a fundraiser to keep marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples safe from a ballot initiative in November.
Gov. John Baldacci has signed on to be the guest of honor at a fundraiser in Portland, a significant statement as many lawmakers have avoided taking sides on the upcoming vote.
According to the Morning Sentinel newspaper, the tickets for the event -- which will be held in a West End residence -- cost up to $1,000.
Baldacci's spokesman, David Farmer, said the governor supported marriage equality, and wants to ensure that it is preserved.
"He thinks that, ultimately, this comes down to people being treated fairly," he said in the article
