Academy Award nominee Diane Lane has teamed up with HBO for a scripted film about the Loud family, the subjects of a 1970's documentary series on PBS which featured television's first openly gay character.
The actress will play Pat Loud, the central character in the PBS doc-series An American Family. The show followed the Loud family as it dealt with the separation of parents Bob and Pat. Pat Loud provided the show's first water-cooler moment when she asked Bob for a divorce on camera.
HBO is developing Cinema Verite for filming later this year. An American Family also featured Pat's eldest son Lance coming out on television in 1973 -- a first.
