Stephen Colbert continues his sarcastic endorsement of antigay GOP candidates, comparing being gay to being short and suffering from alcoholism on his Comedy Central series The Colbert Report. During a recurring segment called "Indecision 2010: Revenge of the Fallen," Colbert discussed the midterm election, focusing on comments made by Massachusetts Republican Sean Bielat and Colorado Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck have been saying about gay people on the campaign trail.
Bielat, who is challenging Democratic congressman Barney Frank, compared gays to short people in an argument for "don't ask, don't tell." He asked, "Where are the short guys standing in front of the White House?" because people under 5 foot 2 are not allowed to serve either. Buck compared being gay to being alcoholic. Colbert agreed, saying "Yes, being gay is like alcoholism. Too much and you have a problem."
Colbert ends the segment by saying he doesn't want any liberals going after the two candidates for being "politically opportunistic, election year gay baiters." "They can't help it," Colbert says. "They were born that way."
