Thousands gathered in celebration of the 15th annual gay pride parade in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.
According to NDTV, many of the attendees mixed partying with a serious message against antigay violence. Brazil suffers from one of the highest numbers of hate crimes in Latin America according to Amnesty International, and last year a man was killed after the gay pride parade in Sao Paulo, the largest in the country.
"Rio de Janeiro is said to be the world's number one destination for gay tourism but the parade organisers say prejudice and violence against homosexuals are still common throughout the city," reported NDTV.
