The latest Pew survey on "don't ask, don't tell" repeal shows that 58% of Americans support gay and lesbian service members being allowed to serve openly, with only 27% of those surveyed supporting the DADT policy.
The survey from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life says Republicans still remain divided on the issue, with 40% saying gays should be permitted to serve openly and 44% saying they should not.
National approval for openly gay service members is mirrored in almost every religious and age group, according to the poll.
