What It Means to be Gypsy of the Year

Sometimes Broadway truly shows its best when it uses its wealth of talent to raise money to fight HIV/AIDS. And the annual Gypsy of the Year competition brings together hundreds of dancers and singers and behind-the-scenes players to raise money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
In the video below, actors including Denis O'Hare and Judith Light explain where the idea came from and what it has meant to each of them. It's meant a lot in sheer dollars, with the 23 shows since 1989 raising more than $49 million for the cause. —Lucas Grindley
