Lesbian actress Cherry Jones will reprise her Tony award-winning role in a 24-city tour of Broadway hit Doubt.

Out actress Cherry Jones, who won the 2005 Tony award for Best Actress in a Play for her work in John Patrick Shanley's Broadway hit, Doubt, is joining a 24-city national tour of the play starting in September, reports Playbill.com. Reprising her role as Sister Aloysius, a strong-minded nun who agonizes over whether to air her suspicions of sexual abuse at a Bronx Catholic School circa 1964, Jones will play the first six months of the tour.

When Jones won her first Tony award in 1995 (for her work in The Heiress), she thanked her longtime partner, Mary O'Connor, during her acceptance speech, becoming the first out lesbian actress to win a Tony. She was honored in 2004 with GLAAD's Vito Russo Award, named after the author of The Celluloid Closet and presented to an out gay or lesbian entertainer who has furthered LGBT visibility.
