Religious
homophobes in Maine attack Brokeback

The Christian Civic League of Maine is asking its members to call local movie theaters and ask them to stop showing Academy Award winner Brokeback Mountain. In its online daily newsletter to its members, the organization said the movie is still going strong in theaters throughout Maine. The movie is a love story between two cowboys.

In its e-mail newsletter, the Christian Civic League said the movie is of particular concern to young teens who may be "introduced to a lifestyle which has deadly consequences." The league said people should contact their local theaters and ask that the movie be dropped in favor of what it called "more wholesome entertainment."

Brokeback Mountain won three Oscars earlier this month, including Best Director. The film has grossed more than $80 million in the United States. (AP)
