Sharon Stone hopes to raise more than $1 million for AIDS research at an auction at the Dubai International Film Festival on behalf of Cinema Against AIDS and AmfAR.

"We're happy as artists to know that we're coming together in the movie community to work in AIDS awareness," Stone told Reuters on Monday night. "We've been very happy to have been for many years at the Cannes film festival and the Rome festival, and now we're happy to be here."

Michelle Yeoh, star of Memoirs of a Geisha, and singer Gloria Estefan were also on hand to support the fund-raiser.

According to Reuters, Cinema Against AIDS events have generated more than $30 million for AIDS research since 1993. In more than two decades, AmfAR -- the American Foundation for AIDS Research -- has invested $260 million, helping to fund more 2,000 international research teams. (The Advocate)
