Former surgeons
general to address looming health issues

The National Sexuality Resource Center is sponsoring an event on November 2 featuring two former U.S. surgeons general to address sexual literacy among young people and minorities. David Satcher and Jocelyn Elders will call for concrete action in response to disparities in sexual health as well as announce the new Center of Excellence for Sexual Health at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta.

The event will pose discussion concerning the 40,000 new cases of HIV each year and 19 million new sexually transmitted infections, half of which involve those ages 15 to 24.

Other notable speakers at the event, which will take place in San Francisco at the Palace Hotel, include National Sexuality Resource Center Director Gilbert Herdt, Director Deborah Tolman of the Center for Research on Gender and Sexuality, and Bishop Yvette Flunder of the City of Refuge United Church of Christ.
