A lesbian married in Massachusetts is seeking an annulment from her wife in Missouri, the Associated Press reported Monday.
Shortly after marrying in Massachusetts three years ago, Charisse Y. Sparks and Janet Y. Peters Mauceri Sparks moved to Missouri. The request poses a legal challenge in Missouri, which voted resoundingly four years ago to limit marriage to unions between a man and a woman.
Judge Daniel Kellogg of the Buchanan County court told the AP the case was being treated as an annulment. In her petition, Sparks does not recognize the marriage; her partner argues it's legal.
Kellogg will consider the case and has scheduled an April 2 hearing. (The Advocate)
