Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson hopes his hit comedy will lead Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, an unlikely fan of the series, to rethink his stance on marriage equality, according to New York magazine.
At an event in New York, Ferguson, who plays half of a married same-sex couple (along with Eric Stonestreet) on the hit ABC series, expressed surprise to learn that Romney was a fan, but quickly realized the possibilities.
"Well, I hope Mitt Romney is wondering why he likes the show so much," Ferguson tells the magazine. "Maybe he sees that [gay parents] Mitchell and Cameron aren't quite so bad, and maybe he needs to re-think some things. But I love that he watches the show. I think that's very big of him, and I'm hoping that he's being changed a bit, in his heart."
