Out director
Bryan Singer tells SciFi.com that Superman veterans
Jack Larson and Noel Neill will make brief appearances
in Superman Returns , set for release June 30, 2006. Openly gay actor
Larson--who went on to become a noted author, poet,
and longtime partner of filmmaker James
Bridges--played Jimmy Olsen in the 1950s TV series;
Neill meanwhile played Lois Lane, a role she had previously
played in the 1948 film serial. She also made a cameo
appearance in Richard Donner's 1978 Superman
feature.
Singer recounted
to the Web site an anecdote about Larson's first
appearance on the set, when he met actor Brandon Routh, who
plays Superman in the upcoming film: "I was standing
next to Jack, and I was going to introduce him to
Brandon. It was on the roof of the Daily Planet
building. I was standing next to him, and he's
talking, and he's holding his copy of the script, and as
he's doing that he suddenly looks up and he goes, 'Oh, there
he is.' I didn't know what he was looking at. Then I
looked over, and it was Brandon in his Superman suit,
which I'd been seeing every day. It's always something
to see, but for Jack it was a moment. I don't think he'd
seen someone in a Superman suit since 1951." (Advocate.com)
