Comedian Suzanne
Westenhoefer announced Wednesday that she will marry her
longtime partner, Jennifer Houston, in Los Angeles.
"We had a
ceremony for our families back in November 2006, but they
make gay people get married again and again and again,"
Westenhoefer said in a press release. "I guess we have
to prove we really mean it."
The wedding will
take place September 6 at the Hollywood Chapel.
Westenhoefer and Houston wanted to get married before the
ballot initiative vote in November in California,
which will decide whether the supreme court's May
decision to allow same-sex marriage will remain in
effect. California attorney general Jerry Brown said
recently that same-sex marriages that take place
between now and November 4 will remain valid even
if the court's decision is overturned by the vote.
Westenhoefer was
the first out lesbian comedian to perform on Late Night
With David Letterman. She's the winner of a
Cable Ace award for an HBO comedy special, and she tours
across the country. (The Advocate)
