A study conducted
by USA Today shows that 4% of all homeless
people in the United States are HIV-positive. The data was
drawn from information reported from 460 U.S. regions to the
Department of Housing and Urban Development. The study
found that about 730,000 Americans--or about one
of every 400 residents--are either temporarily or
chronically homeless. The data also showed that about 29% of
homeless people use alcohol or illegal drugs, about
20% have mental illnesses, about 11% are domestic
violence victims, and 9% are U.S. veterans.
