Despite a push for abstinence-only sex education in South Dakota, a new survey shows that nearly half of all teens have had sex. The 2005 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, given to nearly 1,600 high school students in the state, shows that 44% reported having engaged in sexual intercourse. Of those reporting sex within the past month, 43% did not use a condom. The study also showed that 77% of the students had consumed alcohol, 37% had used marijuana, 16% had used inhalants, and 7% had used methamphetamines. (The Advocate)
