Donations to
Republican presidential hopeful John McCain have been
returned to the cofounder of male dating website
Manhunt.net, according to the Boston Herald.
Jonathan Crutchley, who stepped down as chairman of
the company on Friday, was told by the McCain camp
that his $2,300 contribution would be returned.
"I believe McCain
will be a better commander-in-chief than Obama, who
also opposes gay marriage," Crutchley wrote in response to
an item in the Huffington Post about his donation. "If
we have an experienced, seasoned person defending the
country in this dangerous age, we will be able to
argue about the gay agenda later."
Crutchley was
described as a "liberal Republican" in an Out
magazine profile on Manhunt.
As a result of
the news of Crutchley's donation, some Manhunt members
canceled their subscriptions. In a statement last week to
Towleroad.com, Manhunt cofounder Larry Basile said
Crutchley's support for the GOP left the rest of the
board in disbelief. (The Advocate)
