Tuesday in Johannesburg, South Africa, a spokesman for Treatment Action Campaign announced that internationally renowned AIDS activist Zackie Achmat is recovering at home after suffering a heart attack Thursday. Nathan Geffen says Achmat's heart attack followed a stressful period for him. "He's doing fine now. He's at home, actually, but he's going to need to rest for a few weeks," said Geffen. "The doctor said it was unlikely to be related to his HIV and his antiretroviral treatment." Achmat is 43; last year he and TAC were nominated for a Nobel Prize in recognition of their work to pressure South Africa's government to provide antiretroviral drugs in public hospitals. (Reuters)
