The American
Academy of HIV Medicine has received a record number of
applications from physicians seeking credentialing as an HIV
specialist for 2007-2008, up more than 110%
from the number of applications received two years
ago. The academy's credentialing program is the
nation's only program that certifies doctors,
nurse practitioners, and physician assistants as HIV
specialists.
"The
significant increase of new credentialing applications over
this two-year cycle demonstrates the dedication of HIV
care providers to remaining as current as possible in
HIV disease management knowledge," said Jeff
Schouten, AAHIVM board chairman elect, in a press statement.
"Providers value the [specialist] designation behind
their title because it reflects their commitment to
