Today is Lesbian Visibility Day.
The day presents an opportunity to celebrate, love, and raise the visibility of lesbians, who, as the LGBTQ organization GLAAD reports, are still underrepresented on broadcast television. Many also still fall victim to the "Bury Your Gays" trope.
In the face of this media landscape and a federal administration that is working toward LGBTQ erasure, many lesbians took to Twitter to embrace their identity. See just a sampling below.
Happy #LesbianVisibilityDay! I’m an out and proud lesbian with a wonderful wife and two beautiful children and I get to go to work every day at @glaad to accelerate acceptance. pic.twitter.com/lUzS5xEF0I

Extremist Pastor Steve Grant attacked my sexuality by calling me a “homosexual pervert.” Stand with me today on #lesbiandayofvisibility and let’s show the organizers of this misguided recall effort that we will overcome their hate! On #LesbianVisibilityDay, here's a tiny reminder that we're not all white, cis, European, blond, young, androgynous, or any other box you put us in. We are different ages, classes, nationalities, presentation, and we're all loved and valid as heck pic.twitter.com/ChWtXypR1w

Spending #LesbianVisibilityDay reading about theatrical & literary agent Elisabeth Marbury and interior designer Elsie de Wolfe - frequently deemed a Victorian lesbian power couple, which is a fantastic way to be remembered tbh. Here they both are at a ball in 1905. pic.twitter.com/EIJbP0gO4o
