Debra Williams, an Atlanta police officer who was involved in the controversial 2009 raid on the Atlanta Eagle bar, has retired.
"Maj. Debra Williams has decided to retire from the Atlanta Police Department after 27 years of service," read a statement from the department. "We thank her for her service and wish her well."
Last week Williams -- who oversaw one of the units that raided the bar -- was demoted to lieutenant. Among the others involved, 10 officers were accused of lying about the incident, two were fired, and seven were placed on administrative duty pending a disciplinary review.
Williams's retirement was effective Wednesday.
