Jazz Jennings, the 18-year-old star of the TLC hit reality show I Am Jazz, has cultivated a reputation as a forthright, honest teen who faces her problems with aplomb.
Jennings continues to proudly speak her truth on the fifth season of I Am Jazz, which premiered last month and chronicles her gender confirmation surgery. Jennings spoke with The Advocate about the process and why it was important for America to see it.
"I think by sharing my surgery experience, people can really see that I'm just a normal girl living my life wanting to go through with this because this is my choice," Jennings said.
"We are humanizing the transgender experience," she said, adding, "I am just a girl that happens to be transgender."
Watch the interview below, and don't miss I Am Jazz on TLC Tuesdays at 9 p.m./8 p.m. Central.
