Late Show host Stephen Colbert voiced support last night for congressional Democrats' sit-in for new gun laws, but said they needed help with their messaging -- phrases such as "rise up" are in direct conflict with sitting, something that is as popular with Americans as gun control.

Colbert also noted that C-SPAN's "viewer" is upset that House Speaker Paul Ryan turned off the broadcast service's cameras, which usually provide live coverage of Congress. The Democrats turned to another bit of technology, an app called Periscope, to make sure the nation would see what was going on. And he reported on Republican concerns that the sit-in was interfering with Congress's work, saying, "You wouldn't want the gridlock to lose its momentum."
